Can you believe the end of this school year is just about 6 weeks away? In some ways we are winding down–reviewing basic skills and in other ways ramping up the challenging lessons. I’m not expecting proficiency but I would like the children to at least be exposed to new works and invite them to test their abilities. I have examined the MSLT Goals of the Montessori Kindergarten Program and by graduation we will have surpassed the goals! Yay! I have also reviewed the Douglas County expectations for first grade and I believe our graduates enrolled in first grade next year will be well prepared. And, children repeating kindergarten will have a positive experience as well. Next month I will provide a few ideas to keep your child fresh and excited for the new school year.
Last month we had a ton of fun with St. Patricks shenanigans. Making the leprechaun magic rock is easy. Make a paste mixture of baking soda, green food coloring and water. Heavily coat a coin (either plastic or real) and shape into a rock. Let dry for at least 24 hours. The rocks can then be “washed” in a vase of vinegar. Our leprechaun hid the rocks and the Kindies had a ton of fun “washing” them to see if the leprechaun left a surprise or a trick (no coin). The kindergarteners invited Mr. John to join the fun!
