With a budding need for socialization, February is always a favorite month for kindergartners. They love to talk about friendship, love and family. And, there’s not a better way to express feelings than with valentines! Or, with a Valentine’s tea party! The tea party is set for Thursday, February 12th during our normal kindergarten time. We will be sharing “surprise” valentines with fellow kindergarteners, snacking on heart shaped treats and enjoying decaffeinated hot tea. It is a special time and I hope all the kindergarteners will be able to attend.
Our book for our book report and comprehension lesson will
be Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, by David McKee.

The snow cooperated and the first Friday of January we made snow ice cream! It was delicious and super easy to make (as long as there is fresh snow!). Here is the recipe:
1 cup milk (any kind)
1/3 cup granulated white sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch fine sea salt
8 cups clean snow (shaved ice also works)
additional toppings (sprinkles, chocolate chips, coconut, caramel, etc)
In a large bowl, whisk milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until combined.
Scoop up some fresh snow and immediately stir it into the milk mixture until you reach your desired consistency. (The ice cream should be fluffy, not runny).
It melts quickly so work fast!
Add toppings and enjoy!
I put two metal bowls in the freezer prior to making the snow ice cream. We scooped the snow into one of the bowls before whisking and stored it in the freezer until we were ready to use it. As a variation try adding unsweetened cocoa powder to the milk mixture before adding the snow.
We are bound to have more snow this year, right?
