When I think of November I think of warm Fall colors, pumpkin spice, early winter snow and feelings of gratitude. I am thankful to be guiding the kindergarten students. They are filled with wonder, questions, excitement, love and joy. Thank you for trusting me with their academic journey.
Most of our review of language and math lessons are complete and we will be delving into more challenging works. I will be introducing concepts the kindergarteners may or may not grasp. As a Montessorian, I understand all children learn at different rates. For some children they will only be observing while others will grasp the lesson and run with it. They will all see these lessons again and again throughout the school year and every time they will become more familiar and therefore, the concept will become easier to understand. It is an exciting time for the children to “stretch their brains”.
I will be introducing the kindergarteners to reading comprehension. Each month we will read a new book and discuss parts of the book–author/illustrator, title, main characters, beginning/ending, etc. We will dive deep into the storyline (plot) and lesson/moral. We will also check on our feelings regarding the book. This month the book is A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni.
Our Halloween outing to the park was a ton of fun! We have quite a few climbers in our kindergarten class! All the children listened, were respectful, played with each other, enjoyed a little playground freedom and followed the safety rules. Because it was such a successful “field trip” we will certainly plan to go again. A big thank you to Ryan;s family for providing the water bottles and Miss Kaela and Sam (Ollie’s mom) for helping supervise.
