Snack Ideas

In the Montessori classroom, snack is part of the morning work period. Your child will enjoy bringing snack for the class as well as planning, shopping, and preparing the snack. Please take time to let them be a part of the whole experience.

During the school year, we ask each family to bring snack for 1 week. We will need snack for 30 children each day. You can bring it all on Monday or bring it in each day.

You may be interested that in our classroom we have Food Preparation out for the children each day. We do things like: cutting, spreading, shredding. peeling, squeezing, spreading and rolling, and using the mortal and pestle. This was designed by Maria Montessori herself and the children love it.

We have several children that have severe allergies, so please be conscious of that when you are shopping. WE CANNOT HAVE: ANY NUTS, TRACE NUTS, or PEANUT BUTTER. Organic and fresh items are preferred. Some children have a low tolerance for sugar and it can interfere with their concentration, so here are some snack recommendations:

One of our most favorite and interactive snacks: Each child received a blue paper plate (water) on which there was quite a few goldfish crackers (fish), thin straight pretzels (fishing poles), and some spray cheese (bait).  Each child went “fishing” for snack by taking a pretzel, dipping it in the cheese, and then trying to get a goldfish to stick to the pretzel.  It was adorable!  The teachers tried to have individual snack as usual but it caused so much interest that all the children had snack together so everyone could “fish”.  I wish you could have heard the conversations!

Due to COVID-19, Our Nurse Consultant would like Prepackaged snacks only (nothing homemade).
For example, if you bring fruit, or bagels and cream cheese, etc. we will prepare it at school.
